09/05/2006: "Important Celebrity Death"

James Van Allen died on 9 August 2006. Even though I attended classes in the building named for him, and had even talked to him on a few occasions, I totally missed his death until it was mentioned to me at a house-warming party this past weekend.

You didn't think that I was talking about Steve Irwin, did you? His death may have been ironic (since he wasn't in the process of taunting a wild animal like he normally was), but it certainly isn't as important as the death of one of the world's leading physicists.
