Okay, I've spent a long time trying to get this fixed. I ended up deciding that the Perl tip I found didn't help. Marty was the only person in the world who thought that would work, or at least the only person who brought it up. So my solution was actually to bring in a third language (JavaScript*) to create a popup that would ping Technorati. It isn't as automatic as I would prefer because I still have to click a couple of times, but I have removed the need to think about it, which is practically the same thing.

* Yes, I know. Technically it should be called "ECMAScript", but since no one uses that, why should I?
